A 36 year old taxi driver identified as John Madu has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly raping a female passenger.
According to The Nation, the victim boarded John's vehicle as she was returning from Lagos to Obehie community in Abia state where her folks live.
Suddenly, John stopped the car with the excuse of checking his fuel in the car. The lady tried to convince him to manage the fuel till they get to the town because she became suspicious that the driver was up to something. John lost his patience and pulled her out of the car in a deserted road and pounced on her. The victim narrated that every effort to beg the driver that she was a virgin fell on deaf ears as the driver ignored her pleas and forced himself on her and left her on the road.
It was reported that John slept off after raping the lady so she ran for her dear life to find refuge in a nearby bush.
A patrol team saw John on the highway and interrogated him why he parked there. This gave the young lady the courage to narrate her ordeal with the taxi driver.
The driver was arrested by the team Operation Safer Highway. The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ezekiel Udeviotu Onyeke confirmed the incident.
