TODAY IN HISTORY: JULY 24




July 24 1922
League of Nations gave Egyptian mandate to Britain. Egypt remained a British Protectorate until the Anglo-Egyptian treaty was signed on 26 August 1936.

July 24 1977
Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat, president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, announced an immediate cease-fire along the border with Libya.

July 24 1986
President Kenneth David Kaunda accused the British government of "kissing Apartheid".
