Ikeja Electric Condemns The Increase In Energy theft

Ikeja Electric has raised the alarm over what it describes as rising cases of energy theft on its organisation.

The administration of the company, denounced the activities of individuals who connected electricity illegally to their premises without paying electricity bills.
The Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Mr. Abiodun Ajifowobaje described such persons as “energy thieves”, in a statement,  he explained that such activities were affecting the billing of other customers “as the energy allocated to an area is measured and people may be paying for the power being consumed by the energy thieves.”

According  to Punch , Mr Abiodun said they have put a process in place to migrate individuals involved in this practice into their network. However, they seek the cooperation of community leaders and customers in their efforts to eliminate energy theft and ensure quality service delivery for all customers within the Ikeja Electric network.

In a related development, the firm also attributed the current power interruption across its network to low power allocation from the national grid. Ajifowobaje also said that in the last one week, the average power allocation to Ikeja Electric was 350 megawatts as against minimum load demand of 1,250MW.

He explained that the huge shortfall was seriously affecting the operation of the company as it had to resort to load-shedding, which was having adverse effect on both the company and its customers in terms of man-hours being used to carry out load-shedding as well as service delivery to customers.
