Akwa Ibom Residents Warned Against Eating 'Ponmo'


The residents of Akwa Ibom State have been warned against patronizing and eating the poisonous skin meat being imported into the state by yet to be identified persons.

Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Mineral Resources, Dr. Obot, who gave the warning during an interaction with newsmen last weekend, said the sale of the skin meat, known as Pomo in local parlance, was discovered in some markets four months ago.
Vanguard News reported that, Dr Obot said the government had already taken proactive steps to arrest those behind the importation of the poisonous skin meat.
He also said the state government through the Veterinary Services Directorate has commenced sensitization campaign to the local and urban markets, because it is essential that the people get more knowledge so that they will watch out for the toxic meat which according to reports is being imported into the country from Europe.
